Projects

PS-Tech has participated in numerous projects committed to innovation, transformation and driving technological progress in various industries:

Optical Tracking: head and device tracking of multiple users – IMVIS Project

Optical tracking of head and device of multiple users formed an important and integral component of the research done in the IMVIS FP7 project.

OBJECTIVE: The IMVIS project carried out research to develop novel projection-based stereoscopic multi-view systems for co-located collaborative 3D displays for multiple users.

WHERE DO WE COME IN? The use of PS-tech’s optical tracking technology played an important role to enable the interaction between multiple users. PS-tech developed a multi-user optical tracking system, with its available technology, to enable multiple users to interact with a projection based multi-view system.

3D Medical Imaging: Image Guided Intervention and Therapy – IGIT4Health Project

Image guided intervention and therapy involves medical diagnosis, planning and treatment of patients by minimally invasive placement of diagnostic and therapeutic devices such as catheters and stents inside the human body, enabled by 3D medical imaging and 3D navigation methods. Image guided intervention and therapy helps healthcare professionals to obtain better clinical outcome of treatment, predictable procedure time, fewer complications, and lower morbidity & mortality rates. In addition, image guided intervention leads to a prolonged life, improved quality of life and less discomfort for the patient.

OBJECTIVE: The IGIT4Health project seeks to increase productivity and effectiveness in healthcare and reduce patient risk by supporting healthcare professionals in the transition from invasive, open surgery to minimally invasive, image guided intervention. The increase in productivity and effectiveness in healthcare enabled by image guided intervention is expected to significantly lower healthcare costs due to shorter hospital stay and higher throughput.

WHERE DO WE COME IN? PS-tech used the results from the IGIT4HEALTH project to develop 3D navigation and 3D medical imaging solutions for:

  • The analysis and presentation of 3D and 4D medical data
  • 3D Navigation during image guided intervention procedures

3D Localization: optical tracking in rough environments – Arrowhead Project

The Arrowhead project emerges as an innovation initiative in European technology landscape. Backed by the European Union, this ambitious project seeks to develop a reference framework aimed at boosting the interoperability and security of cyber-physical systems in a variety of industrial sectors.

OBJECTIVE: Within the EU Artemis research consortium for the project Arrowhead, PS-Tech is the work package leader of 3D localization technology, because robust optical tracking in rough environments needed to be developed for the mining industry. This robust 3D localization technology is transferable to other industries that have rough conditions (for example wet, cold, dust, fibrations) but still require the localization of instruments and specific locations in their environment.

WHERE DO WE COME IN? PS-Tech is the work package leader of 3D localization technology. PS-Tech contributed to Arrowhead by advancing and monitoring the state of the art in 3D optical tracking technology and automated 3D geometry reconstruction from 2D/3D camera images.

3D Visualization: Rapid Design Analysis – Crystal Project

CRYSTAL seeks to promote Europe’s leading position in terms of quality and cost-effectiveness of safety-critical embedded systems and architecture platforms.

OBJECTIVE: The Crystal project seeks to facilitate improved and sustainable paths to speed up maturation, integration, and cross-sectorial reusability of technological and methodological bricks. The bricks are ‘building blocks’ for safety-critical embedded system engineering in the areas of transportation (aerospace, automotive, and rail) and Healthcare providing a critical mass of EU technology providers. Below the proposed development process is shown.

WHERE DO WE COME IN? The role of PS-Tech in this project is to investigate the use of interoperable tooling for 3D visualization and simulation (instead of real prototyping) to validate requirements with users, providing multi user and multi-location collaboration.
